The stunning displays of red, yellow, and orange leaves that are all around our gardens remind me of fall.
neighborhood. It does mean I'll need to dedicate some time to raking my yard every weekend. It's important to be vigilant during the fall season. It's something most people don’t realize, but leaves can cause serious damage to your vehicle.
Many of the falling leaves will just land on your roof or hood, and then blow off in wind. They will stick to your car or leaves if they get wet from rain. If left on the leaves for too long they will start to decompose, and can release chemicals onto your vehicle. These substances include sap, acid, and pollen. They also have two negative consequences. The first is that these substances, particularly sap, will stick to the leaves over time making it difficult to get them out. The leaves will eventually fall off your car, and if they are not removed or washed immediately, the residue could stick to your windshield and leave marks on your paint. The second issue is that the chemicals can cause discoloration and spots on your paint. You can't afford to have a fresh coat of paint if leaves are allowed to build up for days.
Leaves can rot in your undercarriage and cause unpleasant smells and rust. Check that the leaves are not clogging your exhaust pipe or AC system. It is possible to save hundreds on repairs by doing a quick maintenance check once a week.
You can prevent this by parking in a garage, or under an awning, whenever possible. A car cover can be purchased if you're unable to park outside or under trees. However, leaves can still get on your vehicle while you are driving. To avoid scratches to your paint, we recommend carefully removing them by hand. You may also consider visiting your local carwash 2 to 3 times per season.
Treating leaves as if they were snow will ensure that there is no problem this fall. You can keep your car safe and clean by regularly removing leaves, washing it, and performing regular maintenance checks.
